![]() Make sure you watch the weather for the whole route, always possible that chains are needed up in Washington or Oregon but not down here. My suggestion would be to find out what size chains and if a certain type are recommended for your car (I used Z style chains and they were pretty easy to take off and put on), and watch the weather as it gets closer to your trip. Once you get to Reno, most of the main roads are plowed pretty regularly and unless you are here during a storm you should be fine. I can tell you after having done both that all wheel drive is much easier, but for a one time trip probably not worth buying or renting a car unless you wanted to for some other reason. If there is snow, you would not necessarily need 4x4, but chains may be needed. ![]() It may not be bad at all and you might be just fine or there may be snow on the roads, especially the 80 overpass. ![]() Its very hard to say what the weather will be like in a month. It can be a very long drive, I would split it into two days if possible. Last October we did almost the opposite, Reno up to Seattle, then the ferry over to Victoria, BC. ![]()
